High school's phone system down for three weeks

Parents of students at Half Moon Bay High School have struggled with a broken phone system for the last three weeks but administrators hope to have the problem solved by next week.
The disruption in phone service has been a nuisance for some, especially running up to and during the school's homecoming festivities last Friday.
Parents looking to talk with teachers or any school employee out of the front office have faced delays and inoperative phone extensions.
When the power went out three weeks ago, the hard drive dedicated to operating the phone system suffered a fatal surge and was ruined, Principal Susan Million said.
There was a three-week wait for the replacement hard drive and it still hadn't been received early this week.
"The part should be in sometime this week," Million said.
Phone calls were made to the homes of students' parents and guardians to inform them of the situation, she said.
The problem has been outlined in school bulletins as well, she added.
Voice mail has been down and the school has only been able to receive calls on its five direct lines.
All phone number extensions have been unreachable in the meantime, and direct lines are only available during normal school hours when the call volume is fewer than five.
"Hopefully everything will be up and running by Monday," Million said.
